The York University Lions football team faced another tough test on Saturday afternoon, as they welcomed the Windsor Lancers to York Lions Stadium.
The Lancers took the ball on the opening drive and drove the ball down the field, but the Lions defence held, forcing Windsor to settle for a 15-yard field goal from Brady Lisder and and take a 3-0 lead.
After a short punt from Nathan Walker set the Lancers up in good field position on their next drive, the Lions defence held once again. This time Lisder converted on a 30-yarder to put Windsor up 6-0.
The Lions showed signs of life offensively on the ensuing drive, namely with a connection to Avery Ford. However, the drive stalled thanks to a Lancer sack, and the Lions were forced to punt.
Lisder stayed perfect on the day midway through the second frame when he nailed a 41-yarder to extend Windsor's lead to 3-0. With seconds remaining in the half, the Lancers faced a third down near midfield, and ran a fake punt, but it was snuffed out by the Lions, giving them the ball with a chance to score points before the break. However, a Matt Linn fumble on the very next play was recovered by Windsor, sending them into the locker room up 9-0.
The third quarter saw the Lancers finally find the end zone. After Lisder made it 12-0, Corson Roy found James Trifon, who made a man miss and waltzed into the end zone to put the Lancers up 19-0.
They added another major in the fourth courtesy of Colby Ginn, went up and grabbed one between two York defenders to make it 26-0 before Lisder hit his fifth field goal in six tries in the final minute to secure a 29-0 Windsor win.
Despite the scoreline, it was another solid day for what has shown to be an up-and-coming Lions defence. They forced a pair of fumbles, and held the visitors out of the end zone until late in the third quarter.
