On a windy Friday evening, the York University Lions field hockey team returned to Alumni Field with momentum on their side, looking to extend their win streak to three after last Sunday's victory over the Guelph Gryphons. Their opponents, the Western Mustangs, also sought to build on their first win of the season over the McGill Martlets.Â
Both teams stepped onto the field with determination, but it was the Lions who quickly opened the scoring. Just two minutes into the match, Abby Thompson found the back of the net, notching her first goal of the season and giving York an early lead. The Lions maintained their offensive pressure, and only five minutes later, Elise Piper capitalized on a penalty, scoring her first goal of the season and doubling York's advantage.Â
Piper struck again with another penalty corner just before halftime, putting the Lions up 3-0 at the break. The second half saw York continue their strong performance, with Juliet Redelaar adding to the scoreline four minutes into third period.Â
Then, in the final minute of the match, Elyse Ives sealed the deal with her second goal of the yyear, concluding a dominant 5-0 victory for the Lions.
LOOKING AHEADÂ
The Lions will hit the road to face the McMaster Marauders tomorrow at 7:00 pm, looking to continue their winning ways and move to 4-0 on the season.Â
