The York University Lions basketball teams continued their five-game road trip on Friday night, traveling to Windsor to face the Lancers. Both sides are coming off road victories over the Varsity Blues on last Saturday.
Women's Game:
The first quarter was back-and-forth throughout. Tied at nine all, Windsor went on an 8-0 run in the middle of the frame to put York in a 17-9 hole. The Lions would rally, however, as Kiara Leveridge scored five of her six points on the quarter in its final five minutes as the visitors trailed 25-23 heading into the second.
The home team got off to a fast start in the second quarter. Windsor went on a 10-0 run, keeping York off the board until the middle of the quarter. The Lancers outscored the Lions 21-5 in the frame, and entered halftime with a 46-28 lead. Â
The Lions found some more offence in the third. Leveridge had eight points, while Alexis Grewal added six. Despite the offence being more efficient, the Lancers continued to play solid offence themselves, and took a 74-45 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Lions played their best quarter of the night defensively in the final frame, holding the Lancers to 16 points. However, Windsor's big second quarter propelled them to a 90-57 victory.
Men's Game:Â
Travon Hamilton recorded the first six points of the game for the Lions, while K'Shawn Latty and Dante Forchione each scored four. Trailing 27-16, York went on an 8-2 run to close the quarter as they trailed the Lancers 29-24 after one
Latty and Hamilton propelled the Lions to a 6-2 start to the second quarter. From there, Windsor went on a 7-0, but three-pointers from Nathan Carr kept things close. Liam Rietschin closed out the frame with four points, as the Lancers took a 46-43 lead to the half.
In a tightly-contested third quarter, Hamilton scored six points and dished out three assists. After what was an evenly-matched third quarter, the Lancers led 65-61 through three
In the fourth, Rietschin scored six points while Elias Panagiotopoulos recorded five. However, that wasn't enough to complete the comeback as the Lancers hung on for an 87-78 win.
