LIONS FALL TO MUSTANGS 65-28 IN HIGH SCORING GAME

This evening, York Lions hosted the Western Mustangs under the Friday night lights at York Lions Stadium. Coming off a heartbreaking loss to the Waterloo Warriors, the Lions entered the match determined to bounce back against a Western team that were undefeated coming into this game and are ranked second across the country. With playoff hopes on the line, this was a crucial game for York as they continued their quest to end their 21-year playoff drought.

The Mustangs opened the scoring at the 9:57 mark, as quarterback Jerome Rancourt rushed in the endzone to give Western an early lead, and the Mustangs swiftly converted the field goal to expand their lead. With less than three minutes to go Ethan Dolby converted again for the Mustangs off a rushing touchdown to extend the Mustangs lead. The Mustangs ended the 1st quarter with another touchdown from Seth Robinson, while Brian Garrity scoring on the field goal to give Western a 21-0 lead to end the first quarter.

The Lions scored their first touchdown of the game at the 10:54 mark in the second quarter of play. Keagan Hall found Nicholas Adair to cut the lead to two touchdowns. The Mustangs responded to York's touchdown to bring the lead back to three touchdowns. Adair got his second touchdown of the game at the 3:42 mark, Nathan Walker converted the field goal to make it 28-14. While the Mustangs rebounded as Dolby ran 85 yards to score Western's fifth touchdown of the game to end the first half 35-14.

The dynamic duo of Adair and Hall continued to lead the Lions offensive power into the second half of the game. Adair got his third touchdown of the game and Hall also got a rushing touchdown for himself. However, this did not stop Western from dominating the scoreboard and ultimately closing out the night with a 65-28 win.

Up next, the Lions travel to Guelph to face the Gryphons on October 18th vying to round out their regular season play on a strong note.
