LIONS DEFEAT ALGOMA 2-1 CONCLUDING REGULAR SEASON STRONG

This Saturday afternoon at York Lions Stadium, the York Lions men's soccer team faced off against the Algoma Thunderbirds in their Senior Day matchup. Coming off back-to-back wins against the Brock Badgers, the Lions looked to continue their momentum and celebrate their graduating players with another victory.

The Lions entered the match with an impressive 8–1–2 record, sitting atop the OUA West Division and ranked No. 2 nationally. Algoma, meanwhile, came in with a 2–5–3 record and a streak of hard-fought draws, looking to challenge one of the top teams in the country. The match also served as an opportunity to recognize senior Daniel Casa for his contributions to the program.

Algoma struck first, as Thunderbirds forward Elliot Swenarchuk found space behind York's back line and scored the opening goal. However, the Lions wasted no time responding within just ten seconds, Anthony Morano equalized with a quick finish assisted by Luca Priolo, bringing the score to 1–1. In the final minutes of the first half, Luca Priolo capitalized on a rebound to give the Lions a 2–1 lead heading into halftime.

The second half was defined by strong defensive play from both sides. Algoma created several scoring opportunities but could not break through York's solid defense. The Lions maintained their composure, controlled possession, and kept up the pressure to prevent any successful shots from the Thunderbirds.

York held on to secure a 2–1 victory, closing out Senior Day with a well-earned win. The result improved the Lions' record to 9–1–2, keeping them atop the OUA West Division standings and reinforcing their No. 2 national ranking.
