York University Lions men's soccer player Yigal Bruk has been named one of three OUA athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 19, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.

Bruk, a second-year forward from Vancouver, B.C., scored twice in the Lions 3-2 OUA quarter-final win over the McMaster Marauders. The neuroscience student opened the scoring in the third minute of Saturday's match, and added his second of the first half in the 32nd minute to add some insurance.

After scoring just once in the regular season, the sophomore doubled his goal total from the regular season in the Lions most important game – to date – to help propel them to the OUA semi-finals for the 14th time in the last 15 seasons. Dating back to the 2024 U SPORTS championships, Bruk now has four goals in his last four playoff games. He scored the first goal of the U SPORTS quarter-final, a 2-1 win over the St. FX X-Men, and equalized the bronze medal game against McGill, a match the Lions would go on to win 3-1 to capture their first national medal in nine years.

Bruk becomes the second Lion to be selected as an OUA athlete of the week this season, following in the footsteps of teammate Marco Sciortino, upon whom the honour was bestowed for the week of Sept. 8-14 after he scored a hat trick in a win over the Windsor Lancers.

Bruk, Sciortino and the Lions will host the Carleton Ravens in the OUA semi-finals Saturday night at 7:00 pm. You can get your tickets here or watch the game live on OUA TV.
