The York Lions Men's Basketball team hosted the Waterloo Warriors in their season opener this evening. The Lions entered today's match looking to start the season strong after missing out on playoff action in their last season.
The Lions started the match blazing as they went on an early 10-2 run, the run was led by Jonathan Rivera who contributed six of the 10 points scored in that run, including an alley-oop for the highlight reel. Jeremiah Kwarteng had two blocks in the first quarter including an impressive chase down block. York ultimately took the first quarter 12-8.
The Lions held on to their lead in the second quarter outscoring Waterloo, 20-19, Jeremiah Kwarteng continued his defensive displays with a steal. Jonathan Rivera continued to lead the team in points with a total of 10 heading into the halftime break.
York continued to dominate in the third quarter outscoring the Warriors by 10, The Warriors responded in the fourth quarter by going on a 14-0 run and took their first lead of the game late in the fourth quarter with a minute and 51 seconds left on the clock. The Warriors held on to take the game 65-62. Jeremiah Kwarteng, Jonathan Rivera, Malakai Ayres-Olson and lead the team in points with 14 each.

The Lions will host the McMaster Marauders on Halloween, October 31st, with the game scheduled for 8:00 pm.
