The York University Lions men's soccer team will host the Algoma Thunderbirds this Saturday at York Lions Stadium in their regular season finale. With a dominant 8-1-2 record, the OUA West Division leaders are poised to carry momentum into the playoffs.
They face an Algoma team (2-5-3) that will be on the second half of a challenging road trip, following a Friday match against the 6-2-3 Waterloo Warriors, who sit second in the division.
For the Thunderbirds, these two road games are critical. They are currently vying for a playoff spot, and an upset win against the nationally No. 2-ranked Lions would be instrumental. The Lions, however, have a score to settle. Last season, the Thunderbirds delivered the Lions their only regular-season loss at Algoma. This year, with home-field advantage, the Lions aim for redemption.
With a guaranteed first-round playoff bye secured, the Lions will use this final match to sharpen their play style and head into the postseason with maximum momentum. A long and successful postseason is the end goal for the Lions squad.
In a pre-game ceremony, the Lions will recognize graduating senior Daniel Casa, who has been with the program since 2021.
Kickoff is set for 3:15 p.m. on Saturday at York Lions Stadium. You can secure your tickets here or stream the game live on OUA.tv.
