LIONS END 2025 WITH LOSS TO LANCERS

The York University Lions men's hockey team is headed to Windsor for a matchup against the Windsor Lancers. This the third meeting of the season, the Lions were looking for their first victory of the year over the Lancers. York enters the contest aiming to flip the script after dropping both earlier meetings: a 5–1 decision on opening night and a 3–1 result in their most recent clash.

Windsor wasted no time establishing control, scoring three goals within the first six minutes to go up 3-0. The Lancers added two more midway through the period, stretching the lead to 5–0. York eventually settled in and generated extended offensive-zone pressure, and the payoff came at with 50 seconds left when Brandon McCartney scored his first of the season, converting off a setup from goaltender Matt Tovell, who fired a clean breakout pass to start the rush. However, York still trailed 5-1 after one.

After Windsor added two more to make it 7-1.York's best stretch of the night came in the final two minutes of the period. Sustained forechecking pressure created a turnover below the Windsor goal line, allowing Lucas Eagle and Jag Phangura to connect on a quick passing play that found McCartney, who buried his second of the night at 18:17. The goal marked McCartney's first multi-goal performance his career and gave York its second goal of the night. However, Windsor added a buzzer-beater at 19:59 to take an 8–2 lead into the break.

After Windsor scored two more, York's leading goal-getter Owen Gilhula snapped home his ninth goal of the year after a clean setup from Keeton Oakley and Hunter Brown. Windsor, though, took this one 10-3.

LOOKING AHEAD:
