LIONS DROP FIVE-SET SATURDAY SHOWDOWN TO VARSITY BLUES

This Saturday evening, the York University Lions men's volleyball team faced off against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. The Lions had just played the Blues the previous night and were looking to secure a home win after falling short in their last matchup.

Toronto struck first opening with a service ace, setting the tone for a tense first set. York led for most of the frame until a service ace for the Varsity Blues tied it 21-21, swinging momentum and Toronto was able to close out the set, 25-23.

The second set saw rising intensity from both sides. A kill by Chris Hoffman sparked the energy York needed to control the pace throughout. Despite long rallies, the Lions kept their edge, and a block by Hoffman closed out the set 25-19. Colby Soolsma led all players in kills by the end of the set.

The third set continued with long rallies and high energy. Carrying momentum from the previous set, York held the lead again. A powerful kill by Nathan Luken tied things at 13-13, pushing the Lions to finish strong. They took the set 25-20.

The fourth set was as close as it gets, with ties at 9-9, 14-14, 18-18, and 19-19. Neither team wanted to give in, trading points down the stretch. It wasn't until extra points that Toronto edged out York, 29-27.

In the final set, the Varsity Blues took control early and never looked back, winning 15-12 to clinch the match 3-2.

LOOKING AHEAD:
Up next, the Lions will host the Queen's Gaels on Friday, November 21st with the match set for 8:00 pm at the Tait McKenzie Centre.
