York University Lions men's basketball player Liam Rietschin and women's hockey player Emma Wedgewood have been named the lastest York athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 2.

Rietschin, a fourth-year psychology major from Toronto, Ont., put up a pair of solid performances this past weekend, helping the Lions split a pair of games against McMaster and Toronto. The 6'11 centre posted his third double-double of the season in York's 72-63 win over the Marauders on Friday when he scored 18 points and snatched 13 boards to go along with two blocks. He then put up a team-best 21 points in a loss to the Varsity Blues on Saturday.

Rietschin and the Lions will welcome the Marauders to Tait McKenzie Centre on Wednesday night before travelling to TMU on Saturday evening.

Wedgewood, a kinesiology & health science major from Innisfil, Ont., wins her second York athlete of the week award in three weeks after two more outstanding performances between the pipes for the Lions last weekend. The third-year puck-stopper made a dazzling 51 saves on 54 shots in a losing cause at Waterloo on Friday night before backstopping York to a pivotal 2-1 win at Laurier on Saturday. For the weekend, Wedgewood turned aside 81 of 85 shots for a .953 save percentage. She ups her save percentage on the year to .935, good for fifth in the OUA, and drops her goals against average to 1.82, eighth best in the province.

Wedgewood and the Lions now prepare to face the Toronto Varsity Blues in a home-and-home series beginning Friday night at Canlan Ice Sports as they look to clinch an OUA play-in berth.
