As announced Thursday by Ontario University Athletics (OUA), OUA.tv, the conference's web-based streaming service, will be transitioning to a subscription-based service (also known as a pay-per-view (PPV)) for select sports beginning this August.

Since its launch in August 2014, OUA.tv traditionally offered free access for registered viewers to watch up to 1,400 games and championships per season on the platform. Over the last several months, however, the conference, in partnership with its longtime streaming partner Visaic, the OUA Board of Directors, and Member Staff held various discussions on the potential shift to a paid service, with the Board ultimately approving the proposal on June 9, 2025.

OUA CEO Gord Grace said the transition will be a net positive for all involved, including the conference, Members, student-athletes and fans.

"The value of our OUA.tv product is undeniable. The platform houses 1,400 events each year that each showcase the OUA's elite level of student-athlete and overall competition," he said. "Better valuing this impressive asset and venturing down these new paths open up new and exciting opportunities for all parties. By generating new revenues therein, the OUA and its Members can be better showcased on this critical platform. Driving further success can also spark enhancements in the user experience, allow for added support toward the student-athlete experience, and ultimately help to enhance the overall brand and profile of the conference."

Under the new service model, all regular season, postseason and championship games for the sports of football, men's and women's hockey and men's and women's basketball will be subject to a paywall for the 2025-26 season and beyond. This direction aligns with the OUA's Webcasting Policy, which requires Members to stream all regular season, postseason and championship football, hockey and basketball games. Other sports, such as soccer and volleyball, which are streamed by York University Athletics & Recreation but are not mandatory webcast events as outlined in the Policy, will remain free to view.

Visaic COO Jesse Beaudin reiterated the platform's continued commitment to university sport in Ontario and providing the best possible experience for OUA fans.

"We're excited about the next evolution of OUA.tv, and we look forward to helping the OUA deliver the premium experience fans expect, with even more top tier student-athlete action and special features," he said.  "At Visaic, we're passionate about enhancing every viewing experience and helping great organizations like the OUA drive sustainable growth through fan engagement and innovation."
