The York University Lions women's soccer team was back at it on Sunday afternoon, as they travelled to Waterloo to complete a home-and-home with the Laurier Golden Hawks. 

York was looking to avenge a 2-1 loss to the Hawks in the season opener on their home pitch, and earn their first win of the season. Laurier, meanwhile, was looking to sweep the two-game season series and move to within one win of their total from all of 2024.

While the Lions dominated ball possession and had the majority of the scoring chances, they were unable to solve Laurier keeper Mya Brodrecht, who was solid for a second straight game against the Lions. York posted the only two shots on target in the opening half, which finished scoreless.

The Lions continued to press in the second half, forcing Brodrecht to make several key saves. Overall, York mustered seven shots on target in the final 45 minutes, but Brodrecht stood tall and denied all seven, keeping the Lions off the board.

Rumaysa Khan – making her second straight start for York after transferring from Calgary in the offseason – did not have to make a save the entire match. Of the three shots the Lions allowed the Golden Hawks, none of them were on target.

LOOKING AHEAD: 

The Lions will head down the QEW on Friday to open another home-and-home set, this one with the McMaster Marauders, from Ron Joyce Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
