LIONS SECURE POINT IN DRAW WITH WEST-LEADING WARRIORS

The York University Men's soccer team finished a two-game road trip in Waterloo on Friday night against the Waterloo Warriors at the Warrior Field.

The visitors were coming off a dominant 4-0 win against the Windsor Lancers and were looking to make it 3 road wins in 4 matches. However they would have to do it against their toughest opponent yet; the Warriors entered the match undefeated on the season with a record of 5-0-1, sitting atop of the OUA West.

York started on the right foot, registering two shots on target within the first two minutes; however, Ryan Robinson and Anthony Marano's shots were both saved by Waterloo goalkeeper James Ramsay.

York was the better team in the first half, registering a total of eight shots, five of them being on targets, compared to Waterloo, who had zero shots on target. Despite the high number of chances, they could not convert them into goals thanks to several stellar saves from Ramsay, keeping the game goalless at half-time.

Waterloo's first shot on target found the back of the net, as Calum Heimbecker made it 1-0 Warriors in the 50th minute. But, York would get back level in the 68th minute through an Morano marker, assisted by Matthew Medeiros, tying it at 1-1. Just a minute later, York would take the lead, as Christian Zeppieri found the back of the net for the fifth time this season to make it 2-1 Lions.

Waterloo almost equalized in the 82nd minute, but York keeper Michael Williams kept York in the lead with a magnificent save.  Moments later, Zeppieri was handed a straight red card, forcing the Lions to play a man short. The Warriors would take advantage shortly thereafter tying it up in the 85th minute courtesy of Adam Shaikh, and York would settle for a 2-2 draw, as the Lions' record now stands at 3-2-1 at the halfway mark of the season.

The red and white return to York Lions Stadium to face the Guelph Gryphons Monday night at 8:15 pm. You can get your tickets here or watch the game live, free of charge on OUA.tv.
