LIONS MEANDER PAST MUSTANGS FOR FIRST WIN OF 2025

The York University Lions field hockey team travelled to London on Sunday to face the Western Mustangs in the second game of their season-opening Southwestern Ontario road trip. The Lions were looking for their first win of the season after a 1-1 draw against the Guelph Gryphons in Guelph on Saturday. The Mustangs, on the other hand, were looking for back-to-back wins after defeating McGill 4-0 in their opener

Kathryn Carlow opened the scoring in the tenth minute, and just five minutes later, Natalie Brown doubled the lead to make it 2-0 to end the 1st quarter. Gates McAlister scored the only goal of the second quarter, giving the Lions a comfortable 3-0 lead at halftime.

The Mustangs had no answer for Carlow, who doubled her tally just five minutes into the second half to extend York's lead to 4-0. Carlow now has 3 goals on the 2025 campaign through just two games.

Three minutes later, Jocelyn Boyd will make it 5-0 to end the third quarter. McAlister sealed the win, scoring her second of the match to secure a 6-0 victory for the Lions. They earn their first win of the season, and their record now stands at 1-0-1. Championship.
