The York University Lions field hockey team travelled to London on Sunday to face the Western Mustangs in the second game of their season-opening Southwestern Ontario road trip. The Lions were looking for their first win of the season after a 1-1 draw against the Guelph Gryphons in Guelph on Saturday. The Mustangs, on the other hand, were looking for back-to-back wins after defeating McGill 4-0 in their opener
Kathryn Carlow opened the scoring in the tenth minute, and just five minutes later, Natalie Brown doubled the lead to make it 2-0 to end the 1st quarter. Gates McAlister scored the only goal of the second quarter, giving the Lions a comfortable 3-0 lead at halftime.
The Mustangs had no answer for Carlow, who doubled her tally just five minutes into the second half to extend York's lead to 4-0. Carlow now has 3 goals on the 2025 campaign through just two games.
Three minutes later, Jocelyn Boyd will make it 5-0 to end the third quarter. McAlister sealed the win, scoring her second of the match to secure a 6-0 victory for the Lions. They earn their first win of the season, and their record now stands at 1-0-1. Championship.
