LIONS DEFEAT LAKERS IN FOUR SETS

The York University Lions men's volleyball team hosted the Nipissing Lakers tonight.

The Lions started strong taking a 4-1 lead early, but a couple of out of bound balls allowed the Lakers to comeback to make the game tight. After an intense back and forth, the Lakers went on a 5-0 run to take a commanding lead late in the set. The Lions responded by bringing the game back to one through offensive power from Dennis Cota. The Lions could not maintain the momentum and fell in set one 25-23.

Into the second set the battle continued with high energy on the court. After a back-and-forth second set, Bodhi Jones and Alex Ko led the Lions on a late surge to secure a 25–20 win, tying the match at one set apiece.

York carried the momentum into the third set, despite falling 4-2 early in the set a couple of attack errors from the Lakers gave the Lions a five-point lead. The Lions continued to dominate and eventually clinched the set 25-16.

The Lions dominated the fourth set in a similar fashion. Colby Soolsma racked up a lot of points for the Lions, and they were able to decisively close out the fourth set 25-18 and take the game 3-1.

LOOKING AHEAD:
The Lions will return to the Tait McKenzie Centre to host the Lakers again tomorrow for a second match.
