The York University Lions women's basketball team went head-to-head with the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton on Friday night. The Lions were looking for their second win of the year over McMaster after defeating them at home on Halloween night, amd were aiming to move to 11-8 on the season.
The Lions entered the game with a 10–7 record after a loss to the Brock Badgers on Wednesday night, while the Marauders came in with a 4–13 record and were riding a two-game losing streak.
McMaster opened the game strong, securing the first two points with a layup by Emily Frankovic. The Marauders maintained control early until York's Sevene Grewal knocked down a three-pointer and Emmanuell Felix added a layup, tying the game at 11-11. With under a minute left in the quarter, a jump shot by McMaster's A'mya Rawlins-Thomas and a layup by York's Katy Leudy brought the score to 13–13. In the final seconds, Grace Ammendolia scored a layup to give McMaster the lead. The quarter ended with the Marauders ahead 16–13.
McMaster carried their momentum into the second quarter, opening with a jump shot by Carly McBain, who then made a pair of free throws on the next position. This rhythm allowed the Marauders to take control of the frame. They outscored the Lions 19-8 in the quarter, with the final basket of the half coming from McBain, who drained a three-pointer to extend McMaster's led to 11 points. The half concluded with McMaster leading 32–21.
The third quarter began with a layup by McMaster's Tayler Scott, which started a 7-0 run to begin the half. The Marauders lead expanded to 22 points after Sophia Urosevic hit a three-pointer. The score stood at 50–30 after three.
In the final quarter, McMaster expanded the lead to as many as 25. The Lions cut it as low as 19, but the Marauders secured the win with a final score of 70–50.
