LIONS POCKET POINT IN SHOOTOUT LOSS TO BADGERS

The York University Lions women's hockey team hosted the Brock Badgers on Friday night at Canlan Ice Sports in the first game of the winter term. The Lions went into the exam break with a record of 5-7-1-1 and were looking to bounce back after a loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues in their final game of the fall semester on Nov. 29.

Lions netminder Oliva Tran was making her second start of the season, replacing an injured Emma Wedgewood. This was Tran's first start – and first appearance – since Oct. 25, a game, coincidentally, against the Badgers in St. Catharine's. She was terrific in goal for York in this one, stopping all 21 shots she faced.

The game was scoreless through in regulation and overtime and it had to be settled in a shootout. The visitors scored the only goal of the shootout on their second attempt, with Jenna Duarte potting the winner as the Badgers took the victory. The 1-0 loss was the Lions second shootout setback of the season, dropping them to 5-7-1-2 on the season.

LOOKING AHEAD:
The Lions hit the road Saturday night to face the Laurier Golden Hawks. Puck drop is set for 6:00 pm, and the game can be streamed on OUA TV
