Box Score The York University Lions men's soccer team faced the Brock Badgers in a match on this Friday evening, at York Lions Stadium. The Lions entered the contest as the defending U SPORTS National Champions after capturing the national title in 2025. York also made history earlier in the 2026 season, opening its campaign with a 9-0 record for the first time in program history. With first place in the OUA West secured, the Lions looked to maintain their momentum heading toward the postseason.
York came out strong in the first half, with Anthony Morano opening the scoring around the ninth minute to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Brock responded in the 18th minute through Nicholas Buccianti to level the score. York quickly regained control, as Ryan Robinson scored around the 20th minute to restore the Lions' lead. James Fidalgo added another goal in the 26th minute, extending York's advantage to 3-1. Robinson found the back of the net again around the 42nd minute before Christian Zeppieri scored near halftime, giving the Lions a commanding lead heading into the break.
York continued its attacking performance in the second half, putting Brock's defense under pressure. Zeppieri scored again around the 56th minute to extend the Lions' advantage. York continued to generate opportunities as the half progressed, with Fidalgo recording a shot around the 60th minute that went high. The Lions maintained their attacking intensity while remaining organized defensively to limit Brock's chances of getting back into the match.
York continued to threaten in the closing stages. Around the 85th minute, Yigal Bruk struck the post with a shot, narrowly missing an opportunity to add to the Lions' lead. Three minutes later, Aki Zagar tested Brock goalkeeper Nikola Neskovic, who made the save. The Lions continued to apply pressure through the final minutes to secure a 7-1 victory over the Badgers.
The win added to York's strong regular-season campaign as the defending National Champions continued preparing for the OUA playoffs. With first place in the OUA West already secured, the Lions will look to carry their momentum into their next match.
York will travel to Waterloo to face the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday, Oct. 16, at 8:15 p.m. as the Lions look to close out the regular season on a strong note.
