LIONS BEAT MUSTANGS, SECURE RIGHT TO HOST 2026 OUA CHAMPIONSHIPS

The York University field hockey team faced the Western Mustangs in an OUA matchup at Alumni Field, with the Lions delivering a strong offensive performance to secure a 5-1 victory.

Western opened the scoring in the first quarter, with Ruby Dickinson finding the back of the net at the 11-minute mark to give the Mustangs an early 1-0 lead. York responded quickly, as Avery Davis scored at the 12-minute mark to level the game at 1-1.

The second quarter remained scoreless, with both teams looking to gain an advantage. York continued to push forward and create opportunities, while the Lions' defense worked to limit Western's chances. The teams headed into halftime tied at 1-1.

York came out strong in the third quarter, taking the lead at the 36-minute mark when Keira Ho scored an unassisted field goal to put the Lions ahead 2-1. The goal gave York momentum heading into the final quarter.

The Lions continued their offensive pressure in the fourth quarter. Gates McAllister extended York's lead with an unassisted field goal at the 48-minute mark, making it 3-1. McAllister struck again at the 58-minute mark, scoring her second goal of the game to give York a three-goal advantage.

York added one more goal late in the contest when Keira Ho converted a penalty corner at the 59-minute mark, bringing the score to 5-1. Ho's second goal of the game capped off a strong final quarter for the Lions, who scored three times in the frame to secure the victory.

York's offensive performance was highlighted by multi-goal contributions from both McAllister and Ho, while the Lions responded effectively after conceding the opening goal. Western's Avery Davis received a green card in the second quarter at the 27-minute mark.

The Lions will return to Alumni Field on Sunday, Oct. 18, to host the Queen's Gaels at 1 p.m. as they look to build on their 5-1 victory over Western. The win against Western secures York as the host of the 2026 OUA Field Hockey Championships.
