The York University Lions women's hockey team finished their two-game Waterloo road trip on Saturday night against the Laurier Golden Hawks. The Lions were looking to earn their first win of the season, having dropped each of their first three contests.
Laurier established control in the opening period when Ella Jackson opened the scoring, giving the Golden Hawks an early lead. York looked to settle into the game and find its rhythm, but Laurier continued to pressure the Lions and create dangerous scoring opportunities. York's defence worked to limit the Hawks chances, while the Lions searched for the equalizer. However, as the period approached its conclusion, Clara Chisholm found the back of the net to extend Laurier's lead to two after 20.
The Golden Hawks carried their momentum into the second period, with Abby Glandon scoring to increase their advantage to 3-0. York continued working to generate offensive pressure and create scoring chances. With just under eight minutes to play in the third, Natasha Lange provided a much-needed response for the Lions by finding the back of the net for her first on the campaign. Her goal gave York a boost and offered the team an opportunity to build momentum and make a push back into the game. The Lions looked to use that breakthrough as a turning point, but Laurier maintained its lead as the period progressed.
Despite Lange's goal and York's efforts to respond, the Lions could not erase the deficit, allowing Laurier to secure the victory.
