The York University women's soccer team was on the road for a rematch against the McMaster Marauders.
The game started intensely with McMaster shooting a few times within the first 5 minutes, until a sudden turn just a minute later changed the game as York's Mia Aguiar tapped it into the net to give York an early 1-0 lead. The Marauders tried to come back, yet the Lions were on par defensively. Both teams were playing like they wanted it, and it went back and forth between teams. Both goalkeepers, McMaster's Lucie Duffy and York's Charlotte Phillips, were saving shots left and right.
The ball goes between the Lions and Marauders as many corners, shots, and saves are made on both sides. A really nice attempt was shot by York's Sabrina Fabiano that was answered with an amazing tip save by McMaster's Duffy in the 27th minute. The Marauders then go on with a series of corners and shots at an attempt to equalize, yet they fail to convert. The score going into the half was York 1, McMaster 0.
Halftime is over and the second half starts. The Marauders started out with aggression but were a bit too aggressive as they received a red card after a headbutt hit. The Lions were awarded a free kick, and York's Erica Di Matteo sent it straight into the net making it a 2-0 lead.
Intensity was still up as the second half continued with substitutions from both teams, yet McMaster remained scoreless. The Lions kept scoring with Nia Fleming-Thompson's goal after an assist from Samantha Banfield in the 84th minute, and once again with Sofia Capobianco with an assist from Leanna Massi in the 87th. The game ended with a few minutes of added time and York beating McMaster 4-0.
