Men's Soccer | 10/8/2026 7:30:00 PM
The York University Lions men's soccer team comes into this weekend motivated to avenge their first loss of the season last week. Friday's game will also mark the last regular season home game for the Lions and will have Senior Night celebrations for all the York Men's Soccer players leaving the program after this season. The Lions from being celebrated on Senior Night include
Justin Cicchillo,
Cole Fernandez, Matthew Mollicola,
Maverick Wright,
Gianluca Condello, and
Yigal Bruk.
The Lions started 9-0 for the first time in program history after defeating the Guelph Gryphons 4-1 last Friday. York then went on to face McMaster in Hamilton to try and capture the first 10-0 start in program history. The game was a very evenly fought contest with both teams sending 12 shots on target. However, AJ Robichaud was able to put two of those shots in the back of the York net to give McMaster a 2-0 win and hand the Lions their first loss of the season.
York will look to avenge this loss and bounce back this weekend when they face off against the Brock Badgers on Friday night. The Badgers themselves will be a very motivated squad coming into Friday's game as they find themselves in the midst of a battle for playoff seeding. Brock currently sits 5-5 with 15 total points, good for fourth in the OUA West. Ahead of Brock is Western with 17 points in third and McMaster with 19 points in second. York has already clinched first in the OUA West and will have a first-round bye, while Brock would need to win out and get a little help from some other teams to claim the second-place bye.\
Both teams tend to shoot the ball a lot, as they both average double-digit shots on the season. York averages about 16.9 shots while Brock averages 10.7. York converts their shots a higher rate with a shooting percentage of 21.9% while Brock is only converting at 12.1%. In total, York is scoring 3.7 goals per game on average while Brock only scores 1.3 goals per game on average.
Defensively, both teams have a lot of similarities, but York has been stronger on that side of the pitch so far as well. York only surrenders 0.9 goals a game while Brock surrenders an average of 1.24 goals per match. York also has four clean sheets in total compared to Brocks two. During last season, York fared very well against Brock, winning both games against Brock without surrendering a goal and putting up four total goals themselves. The last time Brock beat York outright in Men's Soccer was 2009.
The game is scheduled to kick-off at 8:15 PM EST on Friday, October 9
th. Tickets for Senior Night are available at yorkulions.ca/tickets. The game will also be available to stream on OUA.tv.
