The York University men's hockey team hosted the Laurier Golden Hawks on the eve of Valentines. The Lions came into this game after falling to Guelph Gryphons and were looking to bounce back with renewed energy.
The Golden Hawks got the first goal of the game while York scored the equalizer six minutes later, as Aiden MacIntosh buried the puck assisted by Lucas Eagle and Bredan McCartney. However, the equalizer was short lived as the Hawks caught the Lions on a quick counterattack and closed out the first period with a 2-1 lead.
The second period of play was an intense duel, but Laurier got the only goal of the period with five minutes left to make it 3-1 with 20 minutes remaining.
A few minutes into the third period, the Golden Hawks capitalized on a Lions' turnover to extend the lead to three. The Golden Hawks added another goal from their high pressure forecheck, which caught the Lions in a transitional play and forced a turnover. The Lions were still committed and continued to battle hard with every possession, breaking through with a goal by Ethan Strik to make it 5-2, but it was short-lived as Laurier brought the lead back to four within seconds. The Golden Hawks held on to win 6-2.
