Tonight, the York University Lions men's basketball team traveled to Waterloo for the final game of the regular season, hoping to bounce back after last night's loss to the Guelph Gryphons.
York had difficulties out of the gate, missing several early shots while Laurier raced ahead with strong perimeter and inside scoring. Despite a few baskets from Jeremiah Kwarteng and Jordan Nelson, the Lions couldn't close the gap, trailing 10–27 at the end of the first quarter.
Laurier extended their lead in the second quarter, using efficient shooting to pull further ahead. York struggled to score consistently. By halftime, the Lions trailed 28–47, facing a significant deficit heading into the second half.
York fought hard to reduce Laurier's lead in the third quarter, with Kwarteng and Kevin Okeke contributing key baskets and free throws. Despite some late scores from Nelson and Okeke, Laurier's offense kept the Lions at bay, and the Golden Hawks held a 68–53 advantage heading into the fourth and final quarter.
In the fourth, York battled to chip away at Laurier's lead, with Kwarteng, Christopher Williams, Nelson, and Okeke providing key baskets and free throws. Despite the Lions' efforts to create turnovers and capitalize on offensive rebounds, Laurier's scoring runs kept the Golden Hawks comfortably ahead. York closed the game with late points, but Laurier maintained their lead, finishing with a 89–76 victory.
