The York University Lions women's hockey team was on the road tonight to face the Windsor Lancers in their final game of the season. The Lions were coming off a win from the Western Mustangs and were looking to cap off the season with two wins in a row.
The game started out with York applying high pressure and playing at a fast tempo. With this, the Lions were able to score early in the first period. The goal came just 1:12 into the game on their first shot; Kaitlin Teixeira scored her fifth of the season, assisted by Lola Massey. The Lancers would equalize nine minutes later from a power play, through a rebound. Two minutes later, the Lions were caught on a two-on-one counterattack, allowing a second goal that created a 2-1 deficit.
The Lancers' offense increased the lead during the second period, scoring three times to reach a 5-1 advantage. The scoring sequence included a power-play goal followed by two goals at even strength. This offensive output established a four-goal cushion by the end of the second frame, leaving 20 minutes of play remaining in regulation.
A final power-play goal from the Lancers midway through the final frame brought their total to six. However, the Lions ended the season with a power-play goal of their own at 19:52 of the third period when Julianna Duma found the back of the net, assisted by Lexy Anonech.
