LIONS AND LANCERS FIGHT TO THE FINAL BUZZER OF OVERTIME

The York University Lions women's basketball team hosted the Windsor Lancers tonight at the Tait McKenzie Centre. Coming off a loss to the Western Mustangs last night, the Lions were looking to bounce back.

The Lancers opened the scoring with a free throw early in the opening quarter. Ella Okubasu answered with the Lions' first basket of the game, knocking down a mid range jumper off an assist from Kiara Leveridge, who drew a double team. The Lions got themselves into early foul trouble, getting 3 fouls as early as 7 minutes left on the clock. That didn't faze the Lions as they generated a streak, going on a 9-0 run. The Lions would go into the second quarter holding the Lions to single-digit points and a 10-point lead. Throughout the second quarter, York continued to dominate and closed out the opening half 31-23.

Into the third quarter the Lancers continued to reel back in the Lions early found lead. While in the fourth quarter, the Lancers cut the Lions lead to three points. However, the Lions responded by going on a 9-0 run by making use of second-chance points and forcing Lancer turnovers. The Lancers cut the deficit back to three again with 3:42 on the clock, forcing the Lions to call a timeout. The Lancers tied the game with 19 seconds left on the clock, forcing the game into overtime.

The Lancers went on a run in overtime and used the free-throw line to their advantage. The Lancers ultimately took the game 73-65 despite trailing the majority of the game.

LOOKING AHEAD:
York will look to rebound next week when they host the Guelph Gryphons at the Tait McKenzie on Friday, the 13th, a matchup that also marks Senior Night.
