LIONS FALL TO MUSTANGS IN STRAIGHT SETS TO CLOSE OUT 2025-26 SEASON

The York University Lions women's volleyball team travelled back to London for a rematch against the Western Mustangs on Sunday afternoon, looking for redemption after a 3–0 loss on Friday aftenoon. This the last match of their regular season, the Lions entered the matchup hoping to close the year on a strong note and challenge a Western side that is preparing for the postseason.

Western set the tone early in the opening set, establishing control from the start. While Victoria Herrington worked to keep the Lions within reach, the Mustangs continued to apply pressure at the net. Toni Wilson delivered the finishing blow with a decisive kill, sealing the first set 25–12 and giving Western a 1–0 lead.

The second set opened with another quick strike from the Mustangs, as Kendra McEwen registered an early kill. York responded when Yulia Glazko put the Lions on the board with a kill of her own, narrowing the score to 3–2. Despite moments of back-and-forth play, Western steadily widened the gap. Julia Typa recorded York's final point of the set with a kill, but the Mustangs took the set by an identical 25–12 score to take a 2–0 advantage.

The third set remained competitive through the opening stretch, but Emma Buntic helped Western pull ahead with a five-point run to turn a 7-7 tie into a 12–7 Mustangs lead. York continued to battle, keeping the deficit within striking distance, but was unable to swing momentum back in their favour. Western ultimately secured the set 25–21, completing the sweep for a second straight match.

LOOKING AHEAD:
With the regular season now complete, the Lions will take time to regroup and shift their focus toward preparations for the 2026–27 campaign.
