York University Lions women's rugby star Mistura Are was named Tuesday to the Canadian roster for the upcoming FISU World University Championship Rugby Sevens.

A native of Barrie, Ont., Are enjoyed a breakout season in 2025. scoring an OUA-most 11 tries, tying her for the league lead. That includes scoring four tries in a 60-27 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sept. 20. The psychology major helped lead York to its first playoff appearance in six years in 2025, and returns for 2026 for her fourth season.

The FISU World University Championship Rugby Sevens runs from Sept. 4-6 in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

The Lions kick off their season Sept. 5 hosting the defending OUA champion Queen's Gaels. Action begins at 4:00 pm from Alumni Field.
