York University Lions football player Nathan Walker was named one of three OUA athletes of the week on Tuesday afternoon for the period ending Aug. 30.

Walker, a 6'2, 212-pound kicker from Bowmanville, Ont., announced his arrival back to York for his final season in style in the Lions dramatic season-opening victory over the Carleton Ravens. Walker made four of his five field goal attempts, including the game-winning 47-yarder with no time on the clock to steal a 35-34 win and give the Lions their second straight opening-week triumph.

The criminology major also hit field goals from 43, 16, and 50 yards – a career long. He also connected on all three of his extra point attempts, to account for 15 of the Lions points on the afternoon. In addition, the seventh-round draft pick of the Toronto Argonauts in this past spring's CFL Canadian Draft punted six times for 285 total yards, an average of 47.5 yards per punt, the fourth-highest single-game average of his career.

Walker and the Lions are back in action Sunday night when they travel to Western to take on the Mustangs. Kickoff is 7:00 p.m. live on OUA TV and also available on Radio Western, 94.9 CHRW-FM.
