The York University Lions welcomed the Windsor Lancers to York Lions Stadium on a lively Friday night, looking to continue their undefeated start to the 2026 season. The match marked the second and final meeting between the two sides this year, with York looking to build on its 4-1 victory over Windsor in the season opener.
York entered the match with a record of 4-0, coming off consecutive victories over McMaster and Waterloo. The Lions defeated McMaster 4-0 before shutting out Waterloo 3-0, while Windsor entered Friday's game with a 1-3 record after earning its first win of the season against Brock last weekend.
The Lions wasted little time putting pressure on the Lancers, creating several opportunities early in the opening half. York continued to generate chances through the likes of Anthony Morano, Ryan Robinson and Christian Zeppieri, but Windsor goalkeeper Nicholas Zanin kept the Lancers in the game.
York eventually broke through in the 19th minute when Zeppieri converted from the penalty spot to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. The goal came shortly after Zeppieri had hit the crossbar, as York continued to apply pressure in the attacking third.
Windsor responded just over a minute later, with Matthew Chimienti finding the back of the net in the 20th minute to bring the Lancers level at 1-1.
York continued to push forward following the equalizer, earning multiple corner kicks and testing Zanin with chances from Morano and Luca Priolo.
The Lions regained the lead late in the opening half when Zeppieri stepped up once again from the penalty spot, converting in the 34th minute to put York ahead 2-1.
York carried its advantage into the second half and continued to control the momentum. Fischer added to the Lions' lead shortly after the restart, scoring in the 46th minute to make it 3-1.
The Lions continued to create chances as the second half progressed, with Windsor struggling to generate sustained pressure. York goalkeeper Michael Williams made an important save in the 70th minute to preserve the Lions' two-goal advantage.
York continued to press late in the match, and Zeppieri eventually found the back of the net again in the 81st minute. Assisted by Luca Priolo, the goal extended York's lead to 4-1.
The Lions added one more before the final whistle. Matthew Fischer scored his second of the game in the 88th minute, with Nakye Greenidge-Duncan providing the assist, bringing the final score to 5-1.
The victory continues York's perfect start to the season and gives the Lions a clean sweep of their two meetings with Windsor. York previously defeated the Lancers 4-1 in the season opener, with Morano scoring twice.
The Lions have now scored 12 goals across their last three games, while conceding just one, continuing a dominant run to begin their title defense.

The Lions will now hit the road for their next match against Algoma University on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 3:15 p.m. York will look to maintain its undefeated start and continue building momentum as the season progresses.
