The York University Lions men's soccer team closed out their weekend doubleheader against the Algoma Thunderbirds with another dominant performance Sunday afternoon in Sault Ste. Marie.
After defeating Algoma 5–1 on Saturday, York returned to Superior Heights Turf Field looking to complete the weekend with another strong showing. The Lions entered Sunday's match undefeated at 6–0 and ranked No. 1 in the U SPORTS Top 10.
York controlled the opening half, out shooting Algoma and creating several opportunities before Matthew Medeiros opened the scoring in the final minute of the half.
The Lions carried their momentum into the second half, doubling their lead in the 51st minute through Alessandro Troisi.
Christian Zeppieri then added York's third goal in the 58th minute, with Luca Priolo providing the assist. The goal continued Zeppieri's strong start to the season as the Lions maintained their control of the match.
York added two more goals in quick succession late in the game. Jacob Gravina made it 4–0 in the 80th minute before Jaxon Grey scored less than a minute later, with Nakye Greenidge-Duncan setting up the fifth goal.
The Lions finished the match with 23 shots, including 14 on target, while limiting Algoma to seven shots and three on target. York goalkeeper Michael Williams made three saves before Nick Potalivo took over for the final 10 minutes and preserved the clean sheet.
With the 5–0 victory, York completed the weekend sweep of Algoma while recording back-to-back five goal showings in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Lions now return home to host the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday, Sept. 25 at 8:15 PM EST at York Lions Stadium.
