Coming off their home opener win against the Mustangs, the York University Lions women's soccer team was looking to keep their momentum going against the McMaster Marauders in the annual Orientation Game in front of a packed house at York Lions Stadium.
The Marauders had a few early chances, but were unable to break the ice. York answered back with four shots in five minutes, but they, too, were unable to find the back of the net. After a corner kick from McMaster's Julia Van Haecke, the ball went off a Lion and in to make it 1-0 McMaster, with Van Haecke being given credit for the goal. The tally was the first OUA goal for the Marauders' rookie, and, also, the first goal that the Lions have allowed this season.
The Lions had a few more opportunities before the break, but would go into the half down 1-0. York mustered nine shots, but just two on target, compared to the Marauders six shots with five on target.
Starting the 2nd half, and down a goal for the first time this season, the Lions were hungry to turn the fate of the game around. They were unable to find the equalizer by hour mark, but picked up their pace of play as the game went on. They generated several scoring opportunities, but were unable to convert them into goals. The Marauders maintained their 1-0 lead into injury time, and despite a late push from the Lions, the visitors held on for a 1-0 win, handing York its first loss of the season.

The Lions will head to Waterloo to take on the Warriors on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., looking to get back in the win column.
