Fitness Centre Orientation Session
Nervous about exercising in our Fitness Centre? Want a general walk through on how to use the equipment? Register for the free Orientation that gives you a better understanding of our space and the services you have available to you!
What you get in your 30-minute orientation:
- Walk through of 2 pieces of cardio equipment
- Walk through of multiple pieces of strength equipment
- Safety information
- Information about other services
- General policies of the Fitness Centre
Please note, you will not be provided an exercise program, nor will staff be going through proper lifting techniques with barbells and dumbbells. This is an introductory orientation. If you are interested in lifting techniques we suggest joining our
lifting series and if you are interested in an exercise program to register for
personal training services.

The Outdoor Experience
Join us in The Outdoor Experience program! Experience Canadian culture outside of the university campus through safe and fun events with our staff. Students, staff, alumni, community – anyone is welcome to join these excursions!
This is a great opportunity for those who may be looking for something new or are tired of the gym or sports environment. Check out our upcoming programs over on

Please note:
- Programs may require a general swim test to determine if a life jacket will be required for your participation.
- Each event has a physical activity intensity rating, so keep an eye on that to know what to expect.
Costs of events cover:
- Transportation to and from the experience if public transit is not an option.
- Entry costs to experience
- Snack, however, we do encourage bringing your own if you have allergies or food preferences that may be difficult to accommodate.

Cooking Classes
We know that cooking can be difficult due to costs of living or just boring because you end up doing the same recipes over and over again! Join our nutritionist as we provide you with product samples that get you all the nutrients you need on a student budget. Plus, meals are cooked in a dorm-friendly way to best increase your success of repeating what is taught in case you do not have access to an oven.
Cooking classes are cycled through the following themes:
- Breakfast
- Lunch
- Snack/Dessert
- Dinner
- Protein Rich Beverages.
Students with Fitness Membership have free access to our cooking classes! Other affiliations (ie Students with a Recreation membership, staff, and community) pay $5.00 per class.

Learning Sessions
There is so much health and well-being information out there, so we’re here to help! Join our staff as we take you through different health topics so you can better understand your body, what effects what, and if you are looking for ways to improve, some possible suggestions!

Specialty Series
Introducing a new program for you to progressively learn skills in meditation or weightlifting.
Meditation Series
Meditation has been shown to be beneficial in so many ways but so many people don’t do it! Introducing our new meditation series, where we will teach you basic meditation skills and also teach different ways you can use meditation to improve different aspects of your life (like memory, visualization, and eating!).
Lifting Clinics
Starting lifting weights can be a challenging and intimidating thing! Join us as we teach you about safe ways to weight lift in a smaller space away from our Fitness Centre to get individual feedback on your lifts and leave with a better understanding of the topics covered with will include:
- The Big 3 (Bench, Deadlift, and Squat)
- Push vs Pull
- Accessory Training
- Body Weight Training
Register for one session, 5 sessions, or all of them! Our specialty series pricing is:
- $8.00 per session for York Students (at least a Recreation Membership is required)
- $10.00 per session for all other affiliations (no membership required)
