LIFEGUARD

LIFEGUARD INSTRUCTOR*
 
New Pay Rates effective Fall 2022 – Assistant Lifeguard - $18/hour.  National Lifeguards - $20/hour. Instructors - $22/hour 

Primary Responsibilities: Provide safety supervision and aquatic instruction to clients.
Minimum Qualifications: 
  • NL - Pool option
  • Standard First Aid from one of: Lifesaving Society, Red Cross, or St. John Ambulance
  • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor (if a Red Cross Instructor award is held, a Transfer Clinic can be attended)
  • Lifesaving Society Instructor an asset
  • Qualifications must be current through the full term being applied for (i.e. Summer: May 1 - August 31, Fall: September 1 - December 25; Winter: January 1 - April 30)
  • A Police and VSS report dated no more than five months prior to the start date (May 1, September 1, or January 1) is required.
Time Frame & Hours per Week: Scheduling will be between 6:00 am and 11:00 pm and schedule varies by day.
  • Part Time - up to 24 hours per week
  • Full Time - up to 35 hours per week

ASSISTANT LIFEGUARD
 
Primary Responsibilities: Provide safety supervision supporting the Lifeguards.
Minimum Qualifications: 
  • 16 years of age
  • Bronze Cross
  • Standard First Aid from one of: Lifesaving Society, Red Cross, or St. John Ambulance
  • Additional awards beneficial:
    • Lifesaving Society Instructor
    • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor (if a Red Cross Instructor award is held, an asynchronous transfer clinic can be attended up to December 31, 2022)
  • Qualifications must be current through the full term being applied for (i.e., Summer: May 1 - August 31, Fall: September 1 - December 25; Winter: January 1 - April 30)
  • A VSS report dated no more than five months prior to the start date (May 1, September 1, or January 1) is required with your application.
Time Frame & Hours per Week: Scheduling will be between 5:30 am and 11:00 pm, seven-days a week, and varies by day.
  • Part Time - up to 24 hours per week
  • Full Time - up to 35 hours per week

PROGRAM LEAD - AQUATICS

As a member of the Aquatics Team, this leadership position works closely with the Manager, Aquatics and First Aid, playing a key role in supporting the administration of the aquatics and first aid programs. 


General hours: 24 hours/week; evenings and weekends 

Minimum qualifications: 
  • National Lifeguard – Pool option, Standard First Aid with CPR/C or higher, Lifesaving Society, Advanced aquatics leadership awards.
  • Strong administrative skills, attention to detail, time management, and good interpersonal skills are required.
  • Experience within the Rec York aquatics program is preferable.
