Brent Aquino has been the head coach of the York swimming teams since 2010 and is also the head coach of the North York Aquatic Club’s tri-swim group program.
Aquino, a certified NCCP Level 3 swimming coach, began his coaching career at the University of Arkansas, where he was the medley and distance coach for one year. He then returned to Canada and spent more than nine years with the Mississauga Aquatic Club before moving over to the Etobicoke Swim Club. In his 14 years in Etobicoke, Aquino produced 28 national age group and 47 provincial records, and helped graduate 71 athletes to universities in North America. He was honoured in 1993, 1995 and 1997 as the age group coach of the year.
Prior to becoming a coach, Aquino was an accomplished distance swimmer. He starting his swimming career in North York and later moved to the Etobicoke Swim Club, where he set Canadian records in the 3km and 5km distances and earned a scholarship to the University of Arkansas.
