
The 2025 season will be the 13th for Zeeshan Minhas as York field hockey head coach. He was named head coach of the Lions field hockey program in 2013 after two seasons as an assistant coach.
Minhas led the team to another strong season, which started with a program-record-tying six consecutive shutouts to begin the season. The Lions finished 8-2 to finish 2nd the OUA East and second overall in the conference. York earned an OUA bronze medal – their third consecutive conference medal – and went undefeated in round-robin play as hosts of the inaugural Field Hockey Canada U SPORTS Invitational Championships on route to a silver medal.Â

He was named the OUA and U SPORTS coach of the year in 2016 and had an even more impressive season in 2017, guiding the Lions to top spot in the OUA standings and their first conference banner since 1996. He was also named York’s coach of the year. The Lions won the OUA championship once again in 2022, in a thrilling come-from-behind win over rival Toronto to advance to the U SPORTS championships in Victoria. Minhas won Lions coach of the year for a second time as a result. He was nominated for the award again in 2023 after guiding his time to a perfect regular n OUA silver medal, following a heartbreaking shoootout loss to Toronto in the OUA championship.

In addition to his work with the Lions, he is also the head coach of the Dolphins Field Hockey Club in Scarborough, Ont., a position he has held since 2009. In 2021, Minhas received the Field Hockey Canada Development coach of the year award for his tireless dedication to amateur field hockey.
On the international stage for Canada, Minhas has an array of titles. was the head coach for Team Ontario Red in 2016, leading the team to the gold medal at the U16 national field hockey championships while outscoring opponents 19-0 over the five-day tournament. He was also the head coach for the Ontario U18 Boys team at the 2018 nationals, winning a silver medal with that squad.Â

Minhas is a long-time field hockey player after picking up the sport at the age of nine in his native Pakistan. He played at the national level in Pakistan and was an all-star at the All-Pakistan University national championships.
