Arguably the greatest quarterback in York Lions history has returned to the program as of 2021 as quarterbacks coach. Brett Hunchak, a 2019 social science graduate of York, ranks first all-time at York in yards, touchdowns, attempts and completions, and has finished among the top five in the OUA in many statistical categories over the years.

He received the team's offensive MVP award in 2016 and was an irreplaceable leader for the Lions offence over his five seasons with the team. This has resulted in Hunchak returning to the team for a 2021 season to begin his coaching career.

After his lengthy U SPORTS career, Hunchak played professionally overseas in 2021 in Sweden’s Superserien for the Stockholm Mean Machines as one of the team’s quarterbacks.
