Garfield Nelson joined the Lions coaching staff in 2014. He has also worked with the Etobicoke Eagles in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and with Chaminade College School, helping the Gryphons win TDCAA senior championships in 2008 and 2010.
 
He played two seasons at Butte College, winning a conference championship in 2000 and earning second-team all-conference honours twice. He is also the director and head recruiter for Off the Block Football, an organization dedicated to assisting student-athletes in gaining national and international exposure in football.
