Marcello Lio

Marcello Lio has been the quarterbacks coach for the Lions since 2015, returning to the program where he was a quarterback for five seasons and currently ranks seventh all-time in career passing yards. He also spent one season as the offensive coordinator in 1998.
 
After graduating from York with a degree in kinesiology and health science, he played four years in Germany and Italy and in his last stop in Bergamo, quarterbacked the Lions to both Italian and European championships.
 
Lio is now head of the Health and Physical Education Department and the head football coach at Villanova College in King City, Ont., a role he has held since 2002 when he arrived at the school to start the program. His team has twice received a Top 10 ranking in the GTA and has graduated many student-athletes to the CIS. In 2006, he took a sabbatical from Villanova to serve as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in Bergamo, winning the Italian league championship.
 
He was the quarterbacks coach for the Canadian junior national team that won the silver medal at the 2014 International Federation of American Football (IFAF) U19 world championships in Kuwait. He also runs multiple quarterback development camps throughout the GTA.
