Nick Sapone joined the Lions coaching staff in 2017 to begin his coaching career by working with the linebackers. He is reunited at York with Jesse Alexander, who was his position coach at Wilfrid Laurier University.
 
Sapone spent four seasons with the Golden Hawks (2009-12), playing in 36 straight games at linebacker and recording more than 100 tackles in his career. Prior to heading to Waterloo, Ont., he played at Vanier College in Montreal and won back-to-back Bol d’Or championships in 2006 and 2007.
