Zak Colangelo joined the Lions coaching staff in 2014 as a defensive assistant after a playing career as a linebacker with the Saint Mary’s Huskies. He works primarily with the defensive backs.
In 2016 he was named the defensive coordinator of the York Region Lions in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).
Colangelo brings to York plenty of coaching experience with local teams, most recently as the defensive coordinator for the Halton Cowboys varsity team in 2014. He also served as Halton’s junior varsity head coach in 2013. Prior to coaching the Cowboys, he served as the defensive coordinator for the Loyola Hawks for three seasons (2010-14), helping the junior team win a championship in 2011.
