Jamaal Smith joined the Lions coaching staff in 2014, returning to the squad where he had a tremendous five-year playing career. Smith was consistently one of the best defenders on a team that won two national championships (2008, 2010) and an OUA title (2007) in his time. He was the OUA and CIS rookie of the year in 2006, York’s first at the national level, a three-time OUA first-team all-star (2006-07, 2010) and capped his career in 2010 by earning CIS second-team all-Canadian honours and a spot on the national tournament all-star team.

Smith graduated from York with a degree in economics in 2012.
