2025-26 marks Jordan Taylor's third season as head coach of the Lions men's volleyball program.
Taylor took a young group right to the brink of the postseason in his first year at the helm, narrowly missing out the playoff field. He earned his first OUA win in a five-set thriller over the then-No. 5 ranked and defending Forsyth Cup champion McMaster Marauders on November 11, 2023.
Then, in 2024-25 guided essentially the same team to a 15-5 regular season record in 2024-25, which was tied for second-best in the OUA and was York’s best season since they went 15-3 in 2016-17. His Lions team captured a first-round playoffs win over the Nipissing Lakers in straight sets before bowing down to top-seeded Windsor in the semi-finals and losing the bronze match to Western.
Taylor joined the Lions in the summer of 2023 after previously coaching in the ACAC (Alberta Collegiate Athletic Conference) for nine years, all with the NAIT OOKS men's volleyball program. Jordan served as an assistant coach since 2014, before taking over the reins as the OOKS full-time head coach in 2021. During his 2-year tenure as the OOKS Head Coach, Jordan led NAIT to its first appearance in the ACAC Championship in over 40 years, their program's best winning percentage in over 20 years, back to back top 4 finishes in the ACAC, while also being recognized as one of the CCAA's top men's volleyball college teams with several CCAA National Rankings.
Jordan has spent the last 12 years coaching at both the provincial level with Volleyball Alberta and nationally with Volleyball Canada. He was the head coach of the boy's U19 NORCECA Pan-American Cup in Cuernavaca, Mexico in July 2025, where he led the team to a bronze medal – the nation's first ever medal in that event. . He also was an assistant coach of the boy's U17 team at the 2024 Pan-Am Cup in Colima, Mexico, where they finished fourth. He coached in his first ever FIVB event in August 2025 as an assistant coach for the boy's U19 team at the Boys U19 World Cup in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Provincially, Taylor has coached in Alberta since 2014, where he has held roles of mentor, assistant coach, and, most recently, the head of the Alberta boy's U17 team at the 2022 Canada Cup in Calgary, winning a gold medal. He has also earned two national championship silver medals, in both 2014 and 2015, and a bronze in 2016
He also has over a decade of experience coaching club volleyball in Alberta, where he has seen his teams succeed, including winning gold at the 17U national championships with NAVC Griffins in 2022, making five Alberta provincial finals, two back-to-back provincial championship golds, and two more top 4 finishes at the Canadian national championships with FOG Volleyball Club.
Jordan holds a Master's Degree in Coaching & Sport Science from the University of Victoria, and also holds a Bachelor of Physical Education degree from the University of Alberta, Augustana Campus, where he was a member of the Augustana Vikings men's volleyball team during that time.
Outside of volleyball, Taylor is also the founder of Goliath High Performance, a company which specializes in athlete development, wellness and fitness. As a strength and conditioning coach, he has worked with athletes all over the globe at the Olympic, professional, international, NCAA, university, and collegiate levels.
