Mike Chumbley

Mike Chumbley joined the Lions coaching staff in 2012 and spent the 2014-15 season as the program’s head coach while Wally Dyba was on leave. In that year, he guided the program to an OUA bronze medal and a berth at the CIS championships for the first time in a decade.
 
Chumbley is a Level 3 coach with Volleyball Canada and came to York after two years as an assistant at the University of Toronto (2009-11). In addition to a solid technical and tactical background in the sport, he is well known for being one of the top recruiters in the country.
 
He has previously served as a guest coach with the provincial and national team programs and has worked with the Dalhousie Tigers men’s volleyball program. He was the head coach of the U18 Durham Attack club team that won the provincial gold medal and reached the semifinals at the 2008 national championships, and he also served as a head coach within the Ontario regional team program for both beach and indoor volleyball.
 
Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Chumbley was a student-athlete at both Dalhousie University and Ryerson University.
