Brian Kelly began working with the Lions women’s rugby team in 2010 and became an assistant coach in 2012, specializing in front row and tight five.
He has been involved with coaching for more than 10 years at a variety of levels. He began at Humberview High School in Brampton, Ont., before moving on to coach Brampton’s women and junior teams, which he has led to a combined four TRU championships.
Kelly, who is an NCCP Comp-Intro certified coach, comes from a long line of rugby players as his mother, father and older brother are all participants of the sport. He began his playing career at Chinguacousy Secondary School and was part of a dynasty that won five straight regional championships and competed at OFSAA in eight out of nine seasons. He went on to play for the Brampton men’s team but had his career cut short due to injury. He is now passionate about coaching the sport and passing on his knowledge to student-athletes.
