Spencer Robinson

Spencer Robinson

Spencer Robinson was hired as the head coach of the Lions women's rugby program in June 2024. He guided the program to its first two wins since 2022, and narrowly missed out on the OUA playoffs. That earned Robinson the OUA women's rugby coach of the year award, making him just the second York coach ever to win it, joining Joe Costello who won the award three times (2012, 2014, 2015).

Robinson, who began his post-secondary studies at York, brings with him more than three decades of experience on a rugby sideline. He has led teams at the local, regional, provincial and national levels, and has spent the last three years as the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Coach of Youth Rugby and Belonging for the Toronto Inner-City Rugby Foundation (TIRF).

In addition to playing for both the Lions and UVic Vikes, Robinson also has experience coaching at the U SPORTS level. In 1991, he was on the coaching staff of Victoria’s first ever women’s team. He has also coached at UBC, Bishops and Toronto over his 33 years of coaching experience.

While not on the sideline, Robinson makes his career as a firefighter.
