Bernard Sanchez was tapped to lead the Lions wrestling program on October 4, 2022. He first joined the Lions coaching staff as an assistant coach in 2018.

Sanchez guided York to a sixth-place finish at the 2025 OUA championships, the program’s best finish for the program since 2022. The Lions captured four medals, their most at a championship over Sanchez’s tenure, including two silver and two bronze medals.

Sanchez is the Central East Ontario regional president of the Ontario Amateur Wrestling Association,  A Rexdale native, he has been a key figure in the growth and development of wrestling in Toronto’s west end, coaching at local wrestling club, Xtreme Couture, while also coaching at Etobicoke C.I. and West Humber C.I over nearly two decades as an active member of the Toronto wrestling community.
