Mandy McCurdy

Mandy McCurdy is an experienced post-secondary educator with over 20 years of industry expertise, bringing a deep passion and knowledge for sport, education, and inclusion to the York Lions’ Den. A former NCAA Div-I athlete at Brown University (2003), McCurdy earned two silver NCAA medals and was honoured with the Ally McMillan Unsung Hero Award in her senior year by her teammates and coaches.

During her tenure at George Brown College (2004–2022), McCurdy’s dedication to student success and access to education was recognized with the prestigious President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. Committed to lifelong learning, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Brown University (’03), a Master’s in Education from the University of Toronto (’08), and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at York University in the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies. Her research focuses on the experiences of girls and women in sport, with a particular emphasis on the influence of women coaches on girl athletes in hockey.

Beyond academia, McCurdy is an active leader in community sport. She coaches both of her children’s teams and serves as a Level 3 official and Officials Coach with the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA), furthering her commitment to mentorship and athlete development.
