York University Sport & Recreation announced on Wednesday (Aug. 12) that Brian Connors has been hired as the manager of campus recreation.

Connors comes to York from the City of Mississauga, where he was the supervisor of sports. In that position, he oversaw 30 community sport groups, including 18 community tennis clubs, while also engaging in partnership evaluations and the development of new community agreements with third party incorporated groups. While with the City, Connors also spent time as the parks analyst and the aquatic analyst.

"I am looking forward to playing my part in providing the best recreational experience possible for students, staff, alumni and the surrounding community," said Connors. "I am strongly dedicated to the recreation field as a means to improve community and campus health and well-being and I am excited to get started in this new position."

In addition to his positions with the City of Mississauga, Connors has been involved with numerous boards and organizations. He currently sits on the board of directors and the public affairs committee for Parks and Recreation Ontario. He is also the vice-president of research with the Ontario Lifesaving Society and is a member of the steering committee for the Aquatic Federation Council.

In recent years, Connors has been chair of the Water Institute Research Alliance, a director of National Lifesaving Sport and a member of the Ministry of Health Spa Advisory Committee.

Connors holds a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy and liberal studies and a master of arts in philosophy from Brock University. He will begin in his new role on Aug. 24.Â
